Dear Family Church,
We are at peace and have celebrated with the joy of Christmas. Now we come to this very favorite feast of mind which is the Feast of the Holy Family. We celebrate our families and all the wonderful good things about them and our relationships. We want to stress more and more the importance of family. Who do we go to if there is a crisis? With family, there is love and support. We should also celebrate the challenge to make sure everybody in our family is a part of us.
At the Christmas give away, most of the 3,000 or so people who came though the line got a greeting, prayer and a song from me. Sometimes in my prayer I would say, “Lord, bless our family, bless every relationship we have with each member and even bless the funny ones. We have some new members and some that are estranged from the family or have difficulties. But we are especially glad that we are challenged to bring them all in and be family.”
The inspiration comes today through the Blessed Mother, Joseph and Jesus, the Holy Family. Needless to say they had all their issues as human beings, refugees and immigrants. Things were very challenging to Joseph who needed the angel to help him accept the situation in the dream. He also needed help to try to understand why Jesus had to be separated from His parents for 3 days as any parent would look for their child so franticly. Church, it’s good to celebrate this wonderful day. I am with you in every way. Praise God! Alleluia!
