Second Sunday of Advent
Dear Church Family,
Needless to say, the poetry of the Prophet Isaiah is truly striking in showing that animals and humans can get along together. Therefore, we need, here in the second Sunday of Advent, to pray all week long for healings in body and mind and spirit. The requested healings will be celebrated with the Sacrament of Anointing. Of course, as you read this pastor’s pen, probably the sacrament has been given to you, so continue all the rest of the week to especially pray for those who were anointed and those who wanted to be anointed but could not be here. It is so special that we have Friar Ed come and pray and help us share this wonderful sacrament. Next week, we will have the healing of our minds and hearts and our personhood with the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Both of these sacraments are so important for our spiritual Advent growth.
Then we heard John the Baptist coming upon the scene with his pronouncement and his baptisms in the Jordan for all who want to rid themselves of everything that is not of the Lord. He simply tells us to “Repent, for the Kingdom of God is at hand.” And he prepares the way for them and for us to do this. This is a beautiful Advent reflection as we all journey up the mountain, not only the physical one but the spiritual mountain of our spiritual lives. Being so, we will move toward repentance as we look forward to the birth and coming of our Lord and Savior.
Love,
Father Bob
