Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time
St. Augustine Catholic Church
Dear Church Family,
The theme of this week’s readings is Light. “Let your Light shine in the darkness. Don’t hide it under a bushel basket.” Light shines on us and from us sometimes in very humble ways and even then it is like the coming of the dawn. It will slowly but surely break forth.
The attitude that Paul has in his ministry when he is going to proclaim the good news in the second reading is that he, Paul, is called to proclaim the mystery of God. He says, “I didn’t come with great fanfare, sublimity of words, or of great wisdom. But O resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified. I came to you in weakness and fear and much trembling, and my message and my proclamation were not with persuasive words of wisdom, but with a demonstration of Spirit and power, so that your faith might rest not on human wisdom but on the power of God.”
Church, to me that’s the way we all should go about letting our Light shine. Just do it in a humble unassuming way and people will pick up on you being a person of deep faith. That’s the Power of God that each of us has. That’s the Light that we are celebrating today and each of us is endowed with. Alleluia!
Love, Father Bob
