JESUS IS COMING

JESUS IS COMING

Our scriptures today can be perceived to be ominous.  They are warnings about the end times. As the Boy Scouts have always said, “Be Prepared”.  Spiritually we say, “Be Prayed Up.” If you are reading this, I know that you are.  One of the challenges of scripture is finding the hidden meaning.  I’m sure I am not alone in looking forward to the coming of Jesus.

As a father, I will never forget the anticipation of the birth of our first child, Ed, Jr., I had been sick and somewhat limited in  what I could do.  I was full of joy as we waited for our child to be born.  With the arrival of a new baby comes the joy of new life, the world is bright and we are both excited and happy.

So, it is with that understanding that I would like us to receive these scriptures. If we are soon to experience the return of Jesus then what a joy it will be.  As with every new birth there are birth pains.   At the end of today’s scripture, Jesus says, “By your perseverance, you will secure your lives.  But ultimately, we will be overwhelmed with happiness.

In two weeks, we will celebrate the first Sunday of Advent (ad-vento, to come), as we prepare for Christmas, the birth of the Christ child. “Now there were shepherds in that region living in the fields and keeping night watch over their flock.  The angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were struck with great fear.  The angel said to them.  Do not be afraid, for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.  For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord.”

JESUS IS COMING!!!  May we receive Him with great joy.
