Holy Spirit of gentleness, patience, and love

13th Sunday in Ordinary Time – June 26, 2022

Dear Church Family,

Summer is finally here! Whoopee!! With graduations, weddings, picnics, and holiday celebrations we will have lots of opportunities to evangelize in the Spirit by being a little more human and loving and friendly and joyous and really getting down among people and helping as much as we can. Now, that’s a real challenge to our religion and beliefs!

In today’s Scriptures, we see Jesus steadfastly moving towards Jerusalem which is a theme that flows especially through the Gospel of Luke. Jesus is moving toward Jerusalem to give His all and to let His life go if that is what has to be done to proclaim this message of love and concern, and welcoming everyone into the kingdom if that is what they desire. This same theme is what Jesus challenges us to see that we have the freedom to be in the Spirit and not in the flesh. We see ourselves being people filled with attitudes of the Holy Spirit of gentleness, patience, and love.

Later in the same Scripture, Jesus tells us to ‘follow Him’ and not make lots of excuses. Don’t put it off, just come on, and follow Him right now! We are all striving to do that in some way. We are constantly reminded that when we come to church on Sunday to receive the Word of God, we are to rest in it, to live it and be challenged by it. We also have the wonderful blessing of receiving Jesus Himself in Holy Communion. You can’t beat that with a stick!

So God bless and keep you going in this wonderful direction. Know that the Lord tells us that He is to be first in everything we do. So, don’t make a lot of excuses – just get up and have this wonderful relationship with the Lord and everything else will fall into place. God bless and love you and have  good week as we prepare for a good Fourth of July holiday time.

Love,

Father Bob
