ELEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Dear Church Family,

This is the day the Lord has made – Let us rejoice and be glad!  Yes, church family today is our annual fund-raising card party in our upper hall.  We hope that all of you will participate in this joyous event with lots of fun, food and fellowship. We will also welcome members of our partnering parishes of St. Cronan and Our Lady of Lourdes and all other guests.  I want to thank all of you who have worked so hard to make this Card Party a success.

Today let me give you some passages that I am resting in from the book of Samuel.  I just think of David committing the great sin of taking the wife of Uriah and having him killed.  David recognized his great sin and asked for forgiveness.  So I rest in the words “I have sinned against the Lord”.  I am reassured when Nathan says of David and us, “the Lord on his part has forgiven your sin, you shall not die”.

The responsorial psalm is from Psalm 32, which is one of my favorites.  It simply says, “Lord forgive the wrong I have done”.  Some of the words that I especially like are “I acknowledge my sin to you, my guilt I cover not. I said I confess my faults to the Lord and you took away the guilt of my sin.  Alleluia.”

From Paul’s letter to the Galatians, I’m resting in the words “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me”.  That is a powerful, deep desire to grow closer to the Lord always and to live no longer for myself, but to live in Him.  Praise God.

Finally I rest in the passage that is good that Jesus and I hope myself can be comfortable in the presence of many other people.  Just take all people as they are.  I like the words “her many sins have been forgiven because she has shown great love”.  We humbly can always go to the Lord and ask for total forgiveness.

So enjoy your summer months and enjoy resting in the sacred scripture this week.  Praise God, Amen, Alleluia!

Love, Fr. Bob
