A voice of one crying out in the desert`

Second Sunday of Advent

Dear Church Family,

By the time that you read this message from your pastor, we will probably already have had our Anointing of the Sick service and given all those present that sacred sacrament with the oil on their foreheads, so rejoice for the Lord is coming!

The message of the scriptures today is especially from the prophet Baruch whom we do not hear from very often throughout the year because he is a minor prophet.  Of course, we have the Gospel of Luke proclaiming that John the Baptist is making the way by preparing people with a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.  So, the road to our God is smooth and easy to follow to come to the Lord.

We hear the age-old cry from the prophet Isaiah: “A voice of one crying out in the desert:  Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.  Every valley shall be filled and every mountain and hill shall be made low.  The winding roads shall be made straight, and the rough ways made smooth, and all flesh shall see the salvation of the God.!”

So, church, celebrate all week long, not only for yourselves, but for everyone else in our church family who has been anointed today and all those who wished they were anointed but were not able to come.

Love,

Father Bob
