THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT
A WORD FROM FR. BOB
Dear Church Family,
Today, the Third Sunday of Advent, we celebrate Gaudete Sunday which means “rejoice”. There is a powerful message of hope and rejoicing in the readings. The Prophet Zephaniah says, “Shout for joy, sing joyfully, be glad and exhort, the King is coming in your midst.” Alleluia! The Psalmist says, “Cry out with joy and gladness for among you is the great and Holy One of Israel.” And Paul says, “Rejoice in the Lord always, I say it again rejoice!” So Church, it is powerful to know that our God is coming even in times of troubles and difficulties.
In all the busy-ness of the season, we pause to ask the Lord to heal us of our sinfulness and to be forgiven. Oh, what a blessing. So, make use of this great Sacrament with the help of my brother priest, Fr. Tom Robertson. Who was Associate Pastor here in 1965. We invite him to share in our rejoicing of the coming of the Lord. As we reach out to a lot of people at Christmastime, there is also much sorrow and trouble. Although we have our own, we just keep hanging in there and continuing on with hope. We need to pray and be aware of all the hurting folks that are around us.
Today, we remember that we are an EASTER people. We remember that joy that is in our hearts when a child is born unto us and the joy that was in our hearts when we were reborn in baptism. John tells us in our eagerness to be Church, but to do it now with a new attitude, and attitude of JOY!
So, Church, get ready and be still in the Lord. Alleluia!
Love, Fr. Bob
