The Lord has given us the Keys to the Kingdom

A Word from Fr. Bob

Dear Silver Jubilarians of the Joyous Family of St. Augustine,

I have a very humorous memory from back in the 70’s when I was at St. Bridgett’s.  We took the youth group out to Beaumont Scout Park and we stayed overnight.  We had to sleep in tents and I told everybody as they were putting up the tents to make sure they fixed the pegs securely.  Lo and behold that night a great storm arose with winds blowing strongly.  When morning came, everybody’s tent was blown down except Fr. Bob’s because I fixed my pegs securely and deeply.

Here we are Church Family, with God blessing us for twenty-five years.  It has not always been easy, but we have been Church and the Lord has given us the Keys to the Kingdom.  He has chosen us like He chose Eliakim to be in leadership “I will place the key of the House of David on Eliakim’s shoulder; when he opens, no one shall shut, when he shuts, no one shall open.  I will fix him like a peg in a sure spot, to be a place of honor for his family.”  In some ways, we apply this passage of scripture to us and in some way even with the great mysteries of understanding the Lord’s working in each of our lives and in the life of this church.  Sometimes not understanding the Lord but in some way, we say, “For from him and through him and for him are all things.  To him be glory forever.  Amen.”  Humbly we say this as we don’t understand everything but we still have great faith that allows us to never give up.  We say, “Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God!  How inscrutable are his judgements and how unsearchable his ways!”

Church, you are rock!  In a sense you are rock, because you have made it to a wonderful milestone with blessed assurance and with God’s Grace and all in Jesus we will continue on.  So, we celebrate!

I am so glad we have our Auxiliary Bishop Mark Rivituso with us today.  Welcome Bishop and we are so glad you could celebrate this milestone of faithfulness with us and inspire us to continue on to be that “peg in a sure spot”.  Be that rock, keep being chosen to have the key of righteousness.  All that, we celebrate.  So, Bishop Mark, enter into our joy, enter into our continued determination to really be Church in a troubled society.  Alleluia!

Praise God from whom All blessings flow!

Love, Fr. Bob
