SEVENTH SUNDAY OF EASTER 2017

Dear Church Family,

Welcome to this glorious Feast of Victory, this feast of the Ascension of the Lord into heaven.  As He goes, He commissions us to go into the world to proclaim the Good News and baptize people in the name of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit and be blessedly assured that He will be with us every step of the way until the end of the world.  This is really Good News of Victory!

The theme for today is “The Word, Go”.  For those of you who were able to share in the homily last Sunday, I created an image of your favorite sandwich which had three parts.  First, of course is the top bun, and obviously, the bottom of the bun.  It’s the ingredients on the inside that makes it a special sandwich.  I was trying to think of my favorite sandwich.  The best I could do in the fast food industry is think of the Burger King burger as my favorite sandwich.  Well, maybe I’ll take an Italian sandwich which is filled with cheese, oils, olives and different types of salami which are roasted.  Just think of whatever your favorite sandwich is.

We used the theme of the top of the sandwich being awareness of love in your life and the bottom being challenged to go forth and put up with the nitty-gritty of life.  What was in the middle was the most important of all.  The meat of it all was to be assured that Jesus is telling us that “He is in the Father and the Father is in Him and He is in us.” And He sends us another advocate, the Holy Spirt, to be with us.  He also said from last Sunday’s Reflection the Word, Go and proclaim the Good News.  We do this all our life.  First trying to put it totally in our hearts and then to share it.  We know our Savior came down in history as a human being and went through the suffering and normal things of daily life, the joys of relationship and love.  So, He proclaimed this and told us to love totally as we go through life.  He sends us forth.  The Word today, Church, is the powerful proclamation, Go! Go! Go! Alleluia!

Love, Fr. Bob
